The Capitol Pride Opening Party. THE HOST SAYS : "On June 28, 1969, following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a riot broke out that lasted for several days. A united LGBTQ+ community -- one that was diverse with regard to sexual orientation, gender identities, and race, and that included queer icons such as Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera -- sparked a revolution of activism that would lead to the rights we have today. Now, as we mark the fiftieth anniversary of the riot that started it all, we are able to celebrate, dance, and be true to ourselves because of the heroes who came before us and gave rise to our powerful community with a RIOT. While our work is not done, collectively through Pride we are able to create a powerful foundation that will help advance the cause of human dignity, equal rights, and a world free from discrimination and prejudice. Kickoff your weekend at DC’s largest pride party. On Friday, June 7, 2019, Capital Pride Presents RIOT! The Opening Party of Capital Pride Weekend."
